Same layout, new room
Keeping the toilet, sink and tub or shower where they are keeps the plumbing simple and puts the budget into the things you see and touch every day. Swapping a toilet in place or putting in a new faucet is often just repair work. Opening walls to the framing is not, and needs a city permit.
Tile that's easy to live with
In a kids' bath, we lean toward porcelain on the floor, larger tiles with fewer grout lines and a slightly darker grout. A tub with a tiled surround and a niche at a reachable height takes care of bath time and showers alike.

A half bath is small enough that one bold choice carries it: zellige up to chair height, a wall-mounted faucet over a vessel sink, a sconce on each side of the mirror. There is no shower to waterproof, so the money goes into finish.
Older houses
Some Nampa houses near downtown date from before 1940. Their bathrooms are small, often with original windows and odd wall depths. In homes built before 1978, the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule applies to paid work that disturbs painted surfaces, so demolition there follows lead-safe practices.
